One of the biggest factors in determining the look and feel of a home is its colors. When you purchase a park model home, you will have the opportunity to customize your tiny house with your choice of colors and finishes for the interior and exterior walls, trim, cabinets, and more.
This post offers some advice for when you are picking out colors for your park model home, along with some examples that show the benefits of various color options. We’ll help you choose colors you will be happy with for years to come.
- Neutrals are always safe
When you are selecting colors for your park model home’s exterior, it is often a wise a idea to choose a neutral hue like white, grey, or beige.
The reason why is that this maximizes your options for where you can put your tiny house. Park model homes are classified as RVs. Depending on your state and local tiny house laws, you may need to place your park model home in an RV park or mobile home community. Many of these have strict rules about appearances, and may turn away houses that they deem to stand out too much.
- Muted hues are also usually fine
If you do not want a neutral color for your exterior, consider going with a muted hue instead. This home’s blue siding is beautiful, but it is muted enough to be close to grey, and not stand out too much.
- Bolder hues can be eye-catching
Do you absolutely have to make your park model home blend in? Not necessarily. This house with its cheerful green siding definitely stands out, but would no doubt still be welcome in many communities.
Plus, if you are able to place the home on your own private land, you can choose whatever color you want for your exterior. You should go with a hue you love, whether it is a neutral one or something that stands out more.
- Bold colors also make for beautiful accents
Can’t decide between a neutral color and something more striking? Another possibility is to go for a combination of the two.
Above, you see a picture of the Champion Athens APH 532. As you can see, the home’s exterior siding is a light, neutral color. But brick red around the bottom of the home makes for a striking contrast and a bold pop of color. It adds visual interest, but doesn’t reduce the overall neutrality of the exterior.
So, this is a good way of adding a “fun” color to your tiny house, but not being likely to offend prospective communities by making your home stand out more than they would like.
5. Neutral colors and warm wood tones are great for any interior
The majority of the time, our customers request that we use neutral colors in the interiors of their park model homes.
You can choose more diverse colors for your interior than your exterior without worrying about what other people will think. Still, there are some good reasons to pick neutral hues.
For one thing, if there is any chance that you may want to sell the house later down the line, it will be easier with neutral colors on both the interior and exterior.
But even if you keep the home forever, neutral colors simply offer you more versatility. They will not clash with any décor or furniture you decide on. So, you can radically change how you decorate your home in the future, and not have to modify any of the surfaces.
Plus, not everyone buys a park model home to live in it (or to do so full-time). Many people purchase them as rentals.
When buying a park model house as a rental, a distinctive look may help bring in guests. But having colors that widely appeal to everyone like neutral hues can help you attract a wider range of vacationers. You will need to figure out the ideal balance and approach to achieve your goals.
One more thing we would like to note is that wood tones (plus ample use of actual wood) can really “warm up” the appearance of a tiny home, making it look and feel inviting. You can see an example of this in the Woodland Park Timber Ridge Woodlands Vault pictured above.
6. White walls can open up the space for an airy appearance
One thing you may specifically want to consider is making the interior walls of your park model home white.
This photo of the Island 6265KR does a great job illustrating how dramatically white walls can increase the sense of openness and airiness inside a tiny home, making the interior look much bigger than it is.
Of course, this is certainly not the only approach you can take, and your home still can look roomy even with darker walls. But it is just a nice hack if you want to enlarge the sense of space.
